Welcome

Welcome to your college preparatory Living by Chemistry course!  This year we will be exploring chemistry based on four major themes:  alchemy, smells, weather, and toxins. As you learn the chemistry content you will also be building your study skills, which will help you in any class or independent study you choose to take.  This course fulfills standard college preparatory requirements.

Course Outline

Unit 1:  Alchemy:       Matter, Atomic Structure, and Bonding

Unit 4:  Toxins:           Stoichiometry, Solution Chemistry, and Acids and Bases

Unit 2:  Smells:           Molecular Structure and Properties

Unit 3:  Weather:        Phase Changes and Behavior of Gases

Year Grades

80%     Term Grades  (20% per term)

10%     Unit Tests - A unit test will be given at the end of each unit.

10%     Final Exam

Term Grades

If you give your best effort and ask for appropriate help, you will be successful!
Students are expected to complete all classwork and homework. Classwork includes your reading journal, labs, activities, worksheets, and quizzes. Homework includes media connections, web research, and ChemStar assignments.  ChemStar assignments are opportunities for you to shine, to be a chemistry star!  You will have a variety of options that will allow you to explore your interests and deepen your understanding of chemistry concepts.
